Base Camp Group runs ski & snowboard instructor courses in Europe and North America that are geared towards people on a gap year or career break. Launched in January 2002, Base Camp currently trains 150 clients on 6 different courses in 3 resorts each year.

In addition to a variety of full-time residential courses, this summer Base Camp is launching a range of part-time coaching only and accommodation only packages. Over the next few years Base Camp hopes to roll out into [a] other ski/snowboard niche markets such as School Ski Trips as well as [b] other gap year/time out market such as volunteer, teaching & conservation placements.

The Brief

Phase 1 - Automate the process of planning and running the growing range of ski instructor courses (holidays/ placements) that Base Camp runs after the point of sale.

Phase 2 - Design and Develop a new customer facing website to contain Base Camp’s increasing portfolio of offerings.

Phase 3 - Integration with their QuickBooks accounting package.

The Solution

Activate developed a custom Intranet/Extranet system with multiple levels of access to support Base Camps business model.

The customer facing website is edgy, styled specifically for Base Camp’s target market and includes options to include videos and photo albums.

The Intranet/Extranet system allows students to:

• Administer their own details
• View and request courses and options
• View secure messages from Base Camp
• Their course schedule
• View their accounts, including invoices and payments

The Intranet/Extranet allows satellite to:

• Secure internal messaging - to individual students, groups of students
• View student and instructor details
• View and administrate courses at the specific resort - who is on what course and when
• Administrate student accounts

Base Camp head office functionality includes:

• Secure internal messaging - to individual students, groups of students, or the whole population of users
• View and administrate student and instructor details
• Course control - who is on what course and when
• Administrate student accounts
• Export financial information to QuickBooks
• Full content control over the customer facing site
